Our brand new hoover

Good mornin', good mooornin'!

This week has been very rainy and windy and cold. I've already begun layering my socks and wearing my gloves and beanie.

Despite the dreich weather, we've had a pure dead brilliant time! Had some great lessons, miraculous run-ins, and a couple of surprise das with our lovely Cumbernauld members. We also got a brand new hoover!! The suction on our other one wouldn't even pick up a crumb, and I was so tired of our dirty rugs, so we finally got a new one, and it is glorious. We hoovered from 9pm to 10:30pm Saturday night. So while most of you were watching conference, we were hoovering our now spotless flat And speaking of, we also had GENERAL CONFERENCE!! Wooo! It was so amazing! Sister Francis and I still haven't seen either of the Sunday sessions--one because of the time difference, and the morning one because of a wee rango.

On Saturday evening we went to the Stake Centre in Glasgow to watch the broadcast of the Saturday morning session with Chris, and that was so so good. And then we found out about a message from President to all the teams saying that we needed to stay in our own areas to watch it. So we were like, "oh, dang it" and told Sister Black, who was going to give us a ride to Glasgow the next day. She was kinda bummed and so were we, cos it's not super fun to watch conference all alone in an empty church building in Cumbernauld, but hey ho. So we went home Saturday night, expecting to be all by our lonesome for all the next sessions. But then we received a text from Sister Black saying that she and Brother Black made a plan to have us over at their home tomorrow morning to watch the General Women's session and then they'd feed us lunch!! And so we were so happy! And let me tell you, the Black family is so hilarious. Sister Black is probably one of the funniest human beings I've ever met. Sister Francis and I were laughing so hard the whole time (not during conference though). The Blacks also taught us a bunch of Scottish lingo that we haven't heard already, and that was pretty funny as well as we tried and butchered each word like a couple of numpties. So much fun. I love them.

We did go to the church after our time with the Blacks to watch the Saturday afternoon session on my wee phone since we don't have access to any computers, and when we tried watching the Sunday morning session live (at 5pm our time), it wouldn't work! I think our filtered phones block live videos or something. So that was kinda sad. So that's why we haven't seen it yet. I guess it just saved the excitement for later!

Anyway, I loved General Conference. There were a bunch of neat "coincidences" (were they really?;)) in the first session especially. D. Todd Christofferson talked about joy, and I had just listened to the talk he quoted a lot ("Joy and Spiritual Survival" by Russell M. Nelson) just that morning! And then Elder Oaks talked about the Spirit World, and quoted from Doctrine and Covenants 138, which I had just studied a couple of days before! So that was pretty special for me.

And I really loved L. Todd Budge's talk in the Saturday afternoon session. "Our sorrows make space for more joy." I love that so much. This has been something I've been holding onto as I've been on my mission. And it is so so true. It's also something that so many in the world don't understand. That's probably the most popular question we get asked over here: "if there's a God, why do bad things happen, especially to good people?" How I wish they would just open their minds and let their understanding be expanded so they could realise that without the bad things, we would never experience joy. Without the bad things, our relationships with God and Jesus wouldn't be nearly as strong, or essential. There would be no purpose to our existence if we didn't have any sad times, rough patches, tragedies, and trials! When we keep our trust and faith in the Saviour, these sorrows "blow" us to God and His Kingdom! I'm so grateful for all of my sad moments and my hard days. They've helped me get to where I am now.

Thank goodness for prophets! They. Are. The. Best!

I love you all! And I'd love to hear your favourite bits from Conference if you'd want to share! Xx
