Douce nuit, sainte nuit
Bonjour mes amis!
I would go on in French, but I'm afraid I don't know much more than that. It's a work in progress. Sister Destribois is trying to teach me some French, and is attempting to help me perfect my atrocious accent. It's so hard! I do know how to sing Silent Night in French though, so we've been singing that together :) She's wonderful. So sweet and fun, and we've been doing great this week. She's been in Ireland her whole mission thus far and didn't know any English before the MTC, so she's having a difficult time interpreting the Scottish accent. She says that most of the time she feels like they're speaking German haha. Poor thing. I've been acting as her translator, but I know she'll get used to it soon. ️ It also turns out that Sister Destribois can't ride bikes. :( Apparently she has bad balance on them and experiences bad motion sickness. I actually miss them. They were very handy. Ah well, gives us more opportunity to talk to people as we walk about. My pinkie toes have been callusing.
Chris received the Aaronic Priesthood yesterday! And we were able to be there for his ordination :) They're going to soon have him begin administering the sacrament. The ward has just enveloped him. They're such good, happy people, and it makes me joyful to see them help and welcome our friends with open arms. They also officially welcomed a returning member into the ward, as we recently found her records and moved them here. Both she and Chris posted on the ward Facebook page that they're so happy to be a part of this "family of Christ." It was the sweetest thing. Our returning member also has a just-barely-turned-eight year old daughter who comes along to church, so we've been trying to teach her as well. She goes to Catholic school and really loves the Saints and Hail Mary's haha...
We found someone new this week who seems to have a great desire to learn. He's very schooled in science and physics, but he's open to the idea of God. His mother passed away around a year ago and he really wants to know if he can see her again. We're excited to see him again this week!
I love Cumbernauld. Meeting people and sharing the gospel with them makes me so happy. I've been listening to General Conference again and I love how so many of them talk about the importance of missionary work! It's absolutely essential for our salvation and that of others, and it brings so much joy. I LOVE IT! And I love all of you! I hope you're all doing well and having fun. I miss you all and hope your week is grand :)
Love, Sister Syphus
