Sunburns in Ireland??
This week was pretty neat!
We taught Roy's (our RC) brother Danny. He received a few lessons from the missionaries before we came to Tralee, but dropped off for a few weeks. He wants to quit all his bad habits and be baptised! It was so cool. He talked about how he had seen the change in Roy since he was baptised and wants the same. The Gospel and Christ truly do change our very natures and spirits.
We went to visit a less active one night, but she wasn't in, so we decided to chap around her neighborhood for the rest of the night. As we were going down a line of houses, this cute little corgi kept wandering about, walking down the way that we were moving, then coming back to wait for us. And then, after one of our houses, we saw this little kid, and he started talking to us, asking what we were doing, etc. We told him, and he said that we should go talk to his mom Tina, with the red door, and that she'd probably read our book. We asked his name, and he said Zion. Roy has a younger brother named Zion, but both me and Sister Elison thought he'd be in his teens or something. So we didn't build up the connection, just kept walking down the line of houses toward this red door. Now, right when we were about to go into this home's lot, the corgi ran out of it to us and began barking. We calmed it down and petted it, and she led us to the door. We knocked, and it was Zion's mom, Tina. And guess what? She's Roy's mom!! And guess what again? When Roy was a baby, she was taught by missionaries and came to church a few times!! Oh my goodness, she was so sweet. She found out that Sister Elison will be going home this next week, so told us that she'd have us over for a bbq before. Then Zion came running back and joined our conversation, telling his mom that he wanted her to read the Book of Mormon to him. I can't express to you how amazing we felt after talking to her. What a Spirit led night. We're hoping that everything works out this week and that we'll be able to begin teaching her.
We've had quite a few funny moments and spiritual moments and super memorable moments this week. You'd be bored if I ranted on :)
Last thing, in church I gave a talk about the importance and influence of scriptures. While studying for it, I read a few of Ezra Taft Benson's talks on the Book of Mormon. That man loved that book. He knew of it's incredible importance. It's been such a wonderful blessing this last year to have an hour set aside just for studying and feasting upon the words of Christ. My love for the scriptures has grown so much. They are so precious to me. In Mosiah 1:3, 5 it gives us one great point in why we need these records. Without them, we would have no real knowledge of God and His commandments. I have a testimony that the scriptures, and especially the Book of Mormon, bring us closer to God. We can understand who He and our Savior is, and discover what they mean to us. I'm grateful every day for these gifts. If you don't have a habit of regularly studying the scriptures, make it one! Your life will become more abundant, and you and your families will be protected from the adversary! That's a promise from a prophet of God. I'll be forever grateful for my angel parents who gathered all of us together to read the scriptures and pray every single day. They established a pattern for me that I never want to lose.
I love this Gospel, I love my Savior, and I love all of you! Be happy and have a grand week!!
