Getting the Gift of the Gab
Hello all my favourite pals!
It's been another grand, adventurous week in Tralee! Monday, after emailing, a few of us in the zone went to explore these really pretty ruins, and we spent the night working in Limerick. Tuesday we had a great zone cluster meeting, and then we spent a few hours afterward helping out the Limerick Sisters. One of them got concussed on Monday when a ball kicked by the Elders ricocheted off a chair and hit her smack dab in the face. Since we were the ones with a car, we got lunch with them, and I stayed with the concussed one for a couple of hours while Sister Elison and the other Limerick drove to the Garda (police) station so she could get some Visa paperwork submitted. When we got back to Tralee, we only had about an hour to go before we had to be in for the night.
The rest of the week was pretty normal! Cept we taught so many strange, crazy people! Pretty sure that half of em are insane. There's one who's apparently a templar. It's some kind of cult ish thing I guess where they protect missionaries (of any religion I guess) and also protect the peace, but use violence if necessary. This guy went on for an hour and a half or something talking about all of his iffy templar adventures. Like being branded, and walking 6 km on a road of burning hot coals, and how his full suit of armour has all these different secret compartments, and that they play all these deathly pranks on all of their "templar recruits." The previous sisters found him, and apparently since he and all of his 600 templar friends have been reading the Book of Mormon and it's been blowing their minds. He said that he was going to bring all of them to church, but of course, not one of them came. He said so many other things about the weird stuff that goes on in Templar life hahaha.
We have a few more really weird people too (not judging, they really are), and they have no real desire to learn, just want to make friends. I guess this week was "sorting the wheat from the tares" as our STL put it haha.
Even with all that though, we do have some really awesome people that we're teaching too! We met with our friend Alain, who's from the Congo, and he brought a friend with him, who we're hopefully going to see with his wife this Saturday! And we have two other friends who are so cool and have such a desire to learn more about our beliefs and the Book of Mormon! Lots of good things going on over here! :)
Earlier today we went to Blarney Castle! And we kissed the Blarney Stone and got the gift of the gab!! Pretty big check off of my bucket list :) Ireland is so beautiful. It's been awesome being able to drive everywhere and see all the beautiful landscape. I've been getting used to the endless green. It'll be crazy going back to the red rock, I do actually kinda miss it though :)
I was studying this week about the Spirit, and in Preach My Gospel, it quotes from Ezra Taft Benson: "The Spirit is the most important single element in this work. With the Spirit magnifying your call, you can do miracles for the Lord in the mission field. Without the Spirit, you will never succeed regardless of your talent and ability." There are two points in there that I love. The first is that alone, we can't truly magnify our calling to the extent that God wants us to. We can't grow and stretch ourselves on our own. What really helps us to grow is the Spirit. With Him we can expand far beyond our physical and mental capabilities. The second point gives me lots of comfort. I'm weak, and I'm not the best teacher (that's why I kissed the Blarney Stone) or the best finder. But with God's work, we don't need to be! He doesn't care if we are or not! And even if we were, it wouldn't make any difference. No matter how eloquent or smart we are, everything we do will pretty much be in vain if it isn't with the Spirit. If it isn't with God or Christ. They are what make us more than the mere dust of the earth :) And this doesn't just apply to missionaries, it's the same for everyone!!
I'm loving everything!! Life is so good. Missionary life is so incredible.
I love you all! Be safe and happy!

I dyed my hair red--don't worry, it'll only last for a week or two, and it's not super noticeable.
Now the whole Limerick district has red hair haha. They all wanted me to dye it so bad!
kissing the Blarney Stone! Woot woot!
