Many many miracles
Hello all!
This week has been busy busy! Lots of travel and meetings :) We also had our smartphone training, since our mission has been approved to receive them. I'm currently typing up this email on Sister Wilkinson's phone, since my phone hasn't arrived yet and my computer keyboard is out of battery. So be prepared for many mistakes and grammatical errors! I feel so awkward on this thing.
ANYWAY. We also had our All Ireland mission conference, and it was so good! President Macdonald spoke for most of it, giving some study tips and talking about how the numbers we set and have aren't just numbers. They represent people and lives, children of God. It was cool, because just the day before, Sister Wilkinson was expressing how she found it was difficult to set number goals, because she just wants to focus on the actual people. We talked a bit about it, but I think the instruction really helped her.
Back in Derry, we visited the Bazzaras again, the family that we met last week from Syria. They again filled our bellies with biscuits and cake, and we were able to give them an Arabic Book of Mormon! Munadel said he would read it, and that they would like to come to church with us next week! They told us to come back next week, and they'll feed us a Syrian dinner :) We're gonna get them taught!
We also had a first lesson this week with Paul, a guy that we met in the city. We didn't think he would show, since he hasn't been responding to our texts or calls, but what'd you know? He came! And he brought a friend! She lives in Edinburgh, but is from Derry, and she had met missionaries there. IT WAS SO AWESOME! We were kinda jumping around in the lesson, but we taught most of the Restoration and focused on faith and prayer. They had some really great questions and thoughts, and Annie closed the lesson with a prayer--her first prayer in a long time! We'll hopefully see Paul again this next week.
And one more miracle, Sister Wilkinson and I were going to have our companionship study at the church, since everywhere else was closed since it was later in the day. We walked in the church, and found the Elders stowing away in there. We're like Shoot! Because rules are we can't be alone with them. So we were wondering what we should do now. We couldn't just go to our flat either because that's also against the rules for comp study. I had the thought to visit our Maybrook Park miracles, since we kinda lost contact. While we were walking, there was a guy about to pass us. In the mission, we've been really focusing on talking to everyone, so I talked to him! And we set up an appointment! Then we got to John's home, and right as we walked up to his door, he walked right up to his car to leave. We caught him and gave him a Book of Mormon and set up a time to meet. Then we went to Karleen's home and got there right as she walked out to leave. We had a short conversation where we were able to follow up! What the miracles?! If we had been in the church, we would have missed all of these opportunities! Then the Elders told us that they had been planning to do the stuff they were doing in the church, in their flat, but then they both felt like they should go to the church. THE LORD SPEAKS!
And that brings me to general conference, my favorite parts of the year. It was absolutely incredible. A friend actually just mentioned in his email that "General conference for missionaries is like the super bowl for Americans." Now I'm not a big fan or the super bowl or sports in general, but I do know some people that are. GENERAL CONFERENCE IS A BILLION TIMES BETTER! So good. Every single talk touched my heart in some way. Such a wonderful opportunity we have. Joel joined us for one session at a member's home on Saturday, and he seemed to really enjoy it.
This week has been fabulous. I'm so happy and feel so fulfilled. Serving the Lord and others is the best thing we could ever do. Nothing gives us a greater sense of peace and fulfillment. And the best part of it is, EVERYONE CAN DO IT! Anytime they want! If you're having a hard time, serve someone, love them, minister, and share the Gospel. Your life will completely change. :)
I love you all, so much. My heart overflows when I think of all the love and support I have back home.
I'm sorry, but I have no pictures this week. :/
Love,
Sister Syphus
